Ice Balls that will melt hearts
| Recipesby Robertson Winery
We have the perfect Family Find for you this month. How to make ice-balls with flowers, to pair perfectly with the Robertson Winery Sparkling Range.
What You’ll Need
Balloons (standard party balloons)
Non-toxic flowers (fresh or dried, in vibrant colours)
Distilled or boiled water (for clearer ice)
Scissors
A freezer
Robertson Winery Sparkling Range bottles
A large clear bowl or wine bucket
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Select and Prepare the Flowers:
Choose small, colourful flowers, eg:
▪ Pink blooms for the Sweet Rosé Sparkling.
▪ White or yellow blooms for the Brut Sparkling.
Trim stems and leaves to fit inside the balloon.
2. Prepare the Water:
Use distilled/boiled and cooled water for clear ice balls, so the flowers shine through.
3. Fill the Balloons with Flowers and Water:
Stretch the balloon for flexibility and carefully insert flowers. Tweezers help with precise placement. Fill the balloon with enough water to create a round shape. Leave some space for expansion during freezing. Then tie the balloon securely.
4. Freeze the Balloons (takes 6-8 hours):
To keep their round shape, rest in small bowls, muffin tins or in a bed of rice.
5. Remove the Balloon:
Once frozen, cut off the knot and carefully peel away the balloon. Then rinse the ice ball under cold water to remove any residue.
6. Display and Pair with Sparkling Wine:
Place ice balls in a large, clear bowl or wine bucket, and arrange bottles of Robertson Winery Sparkling Wine around the ice to make it look elegantly incredible.
